School Description

Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-sex elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community. The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries; including 25 schools in the United States and Canada. The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in single-sex classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities. With a total enrollment of approximately 700 students, the Schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.

Position Description

Sacred Heart Schools is seeking a part-time High School Placement Counselor whose chief responsibility will be to work within the scope of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education to help with high school placement process for students and families.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with the Division Head to execute responsibilities relating to the high school placement process
  • Provide individualized meetings with parents to discuss high school options.
  • Support students through individual meetings and check-ins
  • Guide and facilitate the entire high school application process (includes different types of high schools)
  • Plan and facilitate parent informational meetings about the high school process in 7 and 8th grade
  • Manage and host Sacred Heart Schools’ annual high school open house
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with high school admission departments to facilitate students’ applications
  • Visit high schools to gain awareness about their programs
  • Gather, compile, and share results of high school data to the Sacred Heart community
  • Actively participate in and support the disciplinary guidelines of the Schools and carry them out with respect for the integrity of each child
  • Attend liturgies, prayer services, assemblies, faculty meetings, grade level meetings, workshops, in-service meetings, parent/teacher conferences, and other school functions, as requested
  • Fulfill additional duties when asked (i.e., playground supervision, lunchroom supervision, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2+ years of classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience with the high school application process for private, independent, and public high schools
  • Experience working with student data
  • Working knowledge of the school technology programs, laptops, iPads, and software necessary
