Description of Responsibilities:

The Part-Time (approx 2 days/week) Sacramental Life/Retreat Coordinator will work in concert with the Religion Teachers/Campus Ministry Team to guide the preparation processes for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. In addition, the Sacramental life/Retreat Coordinator will be solely responsible for planning and implementing retreats for Middle School students.

Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-sex elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community. The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries, including 22 schools in the United States. The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in single-sex classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities. With a total enrollment of approximately 700 students, the schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Coordinate preparation processes for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation in collaboration with Campus Ministry Team
  • Provide parent formation in preparation for the sacraments (including parent and sponsor meetings in preparation for Confirmation and offerings for 2nd grade parents)
  • Coordinate retreats for First Communion (parents and 2nd graders) and Confirmation (parents, sponsors, and 7th grade candidates)
  • Manage the collection of documents for students preparing for the sacraments and maintain records of sacraments
  • Prepare students for sacraments outside of scheduled years, including Baptism, Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation
  • Review preparation processes annually with parent evaluation and team debriefing
  • Coordinate annual retreats for Middle School (6, 7, 8)

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Graduate work in Religious Education, Pastoral Studies or Divinity preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work 2 days a week and some evenings/weekends
