General Responsibilities:

Sacred Heart Schools is seeking a Reading Specialist and Assessment Coordinator.  This opportunity is for maternity leave coverage and would run from approximately March 2019- June 2019. 

This position reports to the Primary School Division Head and works to implement the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education in his/her work. The responsibilities of the position fall into two categories. As a teacher, the reading specialist is responsible for providing direct instruction to students, individually or in small groups, to enable below-level students to develop literacy skills. As an assessment coordinator, the position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive literacy and math assessment program, gathering and analyzing data, and supporting and guiding teachers in using literacy and math assessments to inform instruction. This position is part of the Student Service Team and will work closely with the team, as well as the Director of Curriculum & Instruction, to align services, assessment, and instruction.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide direct instruction in the areas of reading and writing for identified groups and individual students, with an emphasis on emergent, beginning, and transitional readers.

  • Participate in collaborative instructional planning with grade level teams.

  • Collaborate with and support teachers in the use of  math and reading assessment data to plan instructional strategies.

  • Develop assessment calendar to coordinate common assessment timeframes.

  • Train teachers in using and analyzing literacy assessments (F&P, ISEL, Lexia, etc.) and instructional programs and practices.

  • Develop common math assessment plan and data analysis protocols.

  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences and provide instructional strategies.

  • Participate in teacher duties such as lunch, recess, and bus supervision.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

A Successful Candidate Will:

  • Possess knowledge of literacy research and effective instructional practices/strategies in reading/writing instruction.

  • Understand the teaching and learning process with students requiring remedial reading instruction.

  • Be able to integrate technology into curriculum, assessment and data analysis.

  • Be knowledgeable in using data to tailor instruction to meet the needs of the students.

  • Have excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.  

 

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Teaching or Education

  • Hold an endorsement as a reading specialist

  • Five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of reading, math and writing was a primary responsibility.

  • Experience leading faculty training and professional development.
