Sacred Heart Schools in Chicago, IL is seeking a Temporary 6th Grade Language Arts Teacher whose chief responsibility will be to work within the scope of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education to teach 6th graders. This opportunity is leave coverage and would run approximately from Mid-December through Mid-April.
Essential Job Functions:
- As a member of the Middle School (Grades 6-8) faculty, this teacher should:
- Have experience teaching literature and writing with contemporary models, e.g. 6 + 1 Trait® Writing Model of Instruction and Assessment, Lucy Calkins, the reading and writing project, etc.
- Have a working knowledge of the school technology programs, laptops, iPads, and software necessary for the implementation of the curriculum
- Have experience using differentiated instruction to teach students how to dive deeper into elements of a book such as:
- symbolism
- themes
- character analysis
- narratives
- The Middle School Instructor will work within the scope of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart to achieve these basic teacher expectations:
- Supports – Implements – Models the Goals and Criteria for Sacred Heart Schools.
- Demonstrates appropriate planning and preparation for instruction
- Develops and maintains a classroom atmosphere that inspires learning
- Upholds professional standards of personal presentation, discretion, punctuality, and clear, direct, open communication.
- Appropriately carries out specific assignments, including but not limited to assigned supervision and duties, and other areas as assigned by the Leadership Team.
- Maintains professional credentials and/or certification as defined by our accrediting agency and consistent with band level placement
- Align with other lower school and middle instructors in the other divisions – Lower School, and Middle School for vertical curriculum coordination.
- Provides comprehensive parent communication and education concerning their student’s performance and progress

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree required in English/Language Arts
- Master’s Degree preferred.
