Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of  the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-sex elementary schools committed to academic  excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community. The educational mission is deeply rooted in the  200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in  30 countries; including 25 schools in the United States and Canada. The essence of this tradition is the total  development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in  single-sex classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities. With a total enrollment of  approximately 500 students, the Schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head. 

Position Description

Sacred Heart Schools is seeking a Teaching Assistant whose chief responsibility will be to work within the scope of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education to assist Lead Teachers in elementary classrooms (grades 1-4).

Essential Job Functions:

Teaching assistants will assist the Lead Teacher in one or more classrooms with:

• Instruction

• Classroom preparation

• Student supervision

• Classroom management

• Other activities as needed

Hours are 7:45-4:00 with limited expectations outside of the school day. As a member of the faculty, teaching assistants will be responsible for open communication with teachers, professional and nurturing interactions with students and parents, and for working as an active member of the grade level team to which they are assigned.

Qualities and Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred

• Experience with elementary-aged children preferred

• A minimum of five years' elementary teaching experience is preferred

Pay Range  $30,000 - $32,000

Based on experience and level of education.  Additional compensation may be available for those with higher experience and education.
