The Senior Accountant upholds the mission of the Network Sacred Heart Schools as expressed in the Goals and Criteria and the mission statement of Sacred Heart Schools, Chicago as approved by the Board of Trustees. The Senior Accountant is responsible to the Controller for managing the schools’ resources in a prudent and careful manner. They will partner with the Controller to create a premier Finance Office that upholds NAIS and ISACS Principles of Good Practice and is fully supportive of the Schools' mission, standards, and policies. The Senior Accountant’s primary areas of focus are revenue and accounts receivable.
Essential Job Functions
- General Accounting and Financial Reporting
• Supports the accounting function of the Schools, ensuring accurate and timely financial information (accounts payable, receivable, fixed assets, accruals, account reconciliations, payroll, etc.)
• Review monthly budget reports with budget supervisors
• Analyze and investigate monthly budget variances and writes monthly variance report
• Complete monthly bank account reconciliation
• Verify benefits are accurate between ADP deductions and invoices
• Update 403(b) amounts on a semi-monthly basis and ensure it is paid out according to our policy
• Perform various other reconciliations and reviews monthly account reconciliations
Accounts Payable
• Review AP entries by the Finance Assistant; ensures proper support for check disbursement, account codes, and dates in the proper period
Fundraising
• Collaborate monthly with Assistant Director of Development to reconcile revenue and Net Parents of the Heart results
• Manage, track, and release funds with donor-imposed restrictions.
Payroll Processing
• Record and make adjustments to semi-monthly to payroll.
• Check and organize appropriate support for payroll changes
• Process and manage payroll adjusting spreadsheet and reconcile with payroll system on payroll days
Other
• Attend all-school required events and fulfill weekly school support duties, as assigned
• Execute other duties as assigned by the Controller or CFO
- Three – Five years of experience in accounting; experience working in a Non for-Profit environment is a nice to have
• Bachelor’s degree required - major in accounting strongly preferred
• Ability to execute with a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, prioritization, discretion, ethics, and confidentiality
• Solid verbal and written communication skills with service orientation
• Ability to work effectively and efficiently as well as anticipate in an environment with changing priorities
• Enjoy working both independently and as a member of a team
• Continuously strive for process improvement and quality outcomes
• Solid computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office – strong Excel skills preferred; experience with payroll/HRIS system(s) (ADP preferred)
• Experience with Blackbaud software (Financial Edge NXT) preferred
Pay Range $60,000 - $75,000
Based on qualifications, experience, and skills.
