School Description
Founded in Chicago in 1876, Sacred Heart Schools at Sheridan Road (Hardey Preparatory for Boys and Academy of the Sacred Heart for Girls) are independent, Catholic, single-sex elementary schools committed to academic excellence within the context of a Christian, faith-based community. The educational mission is deeply rooted in the 200-year tradition of the Society of the Sacred Heart and shared with the Network of Sacred Heart Schools located in 30 countries; including 22 schools in the United States. The essence of this tradition is the total development of each child: spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical. Our girls and boys are taught in single-sex classrooms, but follow a similar curriculum and share in many activities. With a total enrollment of approximately 600 students, the Schools are organized into three academic divisions each led by a division head.
Position Description
Sacred Heart Schools is seeking Middle School Instructors (all subject areas) whose chief responsibility will be to work within the scope of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education to teach Middle School students. As a member of the Middle School Faculty, this instructor will act as an advisor as well.
Essential Job Functions:
• The Middle School Instructor will work within the scope of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education to teach students.
• The Middle School Instructor will serve as an advisor to a small group of students following those students all through their middle school experience. An advisor is responsible for daily prayer, schedule communications, mentoring and academic progress, along with parent teacher conference and communications.
• As a member of the Middle School faculty, this teacher will be responsible for:
• Curriculum formation and evaluation
• Student assessment
• Working as an active and collaborative member of grade teams and other middle school faculty members
• Align with other instructors in Middle School and other divisions - Primary School, and Lower School and Middle School for vertical curriculum coordination.
• Parent communication and education concerning student performance and progress

Qualities and Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree and Teaching Certificate required.
• Master’s Degree preferred.
• 2 years’ experience teaching middle school
